1. Basic Specification
- Weight: 260 g/m², classic medium-heavy drill (1/3 or 2/1 twill) construction, the most widely used drill weave for professional welder garments including welding jackets, bib overalls and work trousers.
- Common raw blends: CVC, cotton-polyester, cotton-nylon or modacrylic-cotton as customized demands. Drill features compact weave density, tight yarn arrangement and excellent abrasion resistance compared with plain cloth.
2. Flame Retardant Technology & Working Principle
Two mainstream FR solutions for welding drill:
① Durable post-finish (CVC / cotton blended drill, Proban THPC cross-link FR)
FR agents chemically bond with cotton fiber interiors; LOI ≥28, valid over minimum 50 industrial washes. Cotton rapidly carbonizes into compact char barrier under welding spark & splash to isolate oxygen and heat, achieving self-extinguishment once away from flame; synthetic fiber improves fabric toughness and shape stability.
② Inherent FR blended drill (modacrylic/cotton, aramid blend)
Flame resistance originates from intrinsic fiber molecular structure without extra chemical coating. FR performance is permanent and never decays after frequent laundering; no molten dripping under high-temperature welding slag.
3. Optional Antistatic Function
Grid conductive filaments are interspersed in warp and weft directions. Surface resistance ranges 10⁶~10¹¹ Ω, fully compliant with EN 1149‑5 to prevent static spark in flammable gas & dust workshops.
4. Relevant EU Certification Standards for Welding
- EN ISO 11611 Class 1: Core welding standard against arc sparks, molten metal spatter and transient open flame.
- EN ISO 11612 A1/B1: Resists radiant heat, flame spread and hot splash for high-temperature industrial surroundings.
- EN 1149‑5: Mandatory antistatic certification for petrochemical & explosive hazardous working sites.
5. Core Product Advantages
- 260gsm drill balances wear comfort and anti-spatter capacity: thicker than 240gsm lightweight drill to block welding slag penetration effectively; lighter than 300gsm heavy canvas to avoid bulky, stuffy wearing during long-shift welding operations.
- Twill drill structure owns superior tear & abrasion resistance, prolonging service life against frequent friction at elbow, knee and waist for welders.
- Stable dimensional performance, good tailorability, easy to attach EN ISO 20471 high‑visibility reflective tapes for safety warning.

6. Limitations
Not fit for ultra-heavy close-range smelting with continuous fierce molten splash (requires ≥300gsm heavy FR drill/canvas). Post-finish FR drill will suffer gradual FR attenuation after over 80–100 heavy industrial washes.
